Ardennes Coticule has been the supplier of law and sharpening stones for sharpening and maintaining knives since 1865. The grinding stones come from the quarries of Ardennes
Product information
The famous Belgian yellow/blue whetstone from the Ardennes is the whetstone for sharpening and maintaining the open razor.
The whetstone is supplied in a luxurious wooden box.
Usage
- Wet the whetstone
- Place the whetstone on a flat surface. Make sure the stone is stable.
- Only use the yellow toral for grinding
- Keep the shaving leaf flat (0 degrees) in relation to the ironing surface
- Light press the shaving leaf on the whetstone
- Shaving the shaving leaf with a quiet movement over the stone
- Turn the shaving leaf to grind the other side
- After grinding, possibly remove the blackberry using the canvas side of the string
- And possibly polishing with the leather of the ironing strap
Material
Belgian blue whetstone:
- Yellow coticule top stone: 4000 - 8000 grit (grain)
- Blue understone
The Ardennes Coticule is a natural product, so no stone is 100% identical. The grit indication is indicative and says little about the specific properties of the stone. The benefit compared to other lawstones is that the Belgian sharpening stone sharpenes very fine and very quickly. This combination does not have any other whetstone.

grind everything
I do my knives with it, but to my surprise I could well polish the dull place in the wood stove window. Will have even more good applications.

Always handy to have
Necessary if a knife will get some bone after good time. Perhaps with instruction even more mention that you do it the other way around as with the noose.
